Nokia restarts outsourcing
Finland based mobile phone manufacturer Nokia plans to restart its outsourcing production to EMS providers this year.
EMSA Nokia spokesperson told Reuters that the company would outsource work to some extend this year. Nokia's own network is still priority, and the spokes person could not tell exactly how much the company will be using EMS providers this year.
According to Reuters, all assembly outsourcing were stopped last year, while in 2008 Nokia was outsourcing 17% of the mobile phone manufacturing to other parties.
The decision last year is expected to have cost the EMS providers such as Jabil, Foxconn, BYD and Elcoteq more than $5 billion, Reuters reported.
